Process
Monday:
When you come to class on Monday, bring all of the materials you have gathered and written for your story. We will be doing a Writer's Workshop in which each of you will have the chance to meet one-on-one with me for a writer's conference, and those of you who I do not get to meet with will be able to schedule your time with me. You will be able to discuss your ideas with your classmates and expand upon the story you brought into class.
Tuesday:
We will finish having our Writer's Conferences, and have a read-aloud of another great book with a story that shows examples of an interesting main character, a conflict within the story, and how the conflict was resolved. This book will help you as you form your story and resolve any conflicts you have while in the writing process.
Wednesday:
On Wednesday, we will be sharing our stories with other students at our tables. We will be working on proofreading and editing of our stories, and I will read you the story I have written about my own favorite tradition. You will have the opportunity to share what you think about my story, and suggest any ideas you may come up with to help me make it more interesting. During our collaborative writing time, I want you to use the discussion we had about my story to help each other and write a second draft of your story, with proofread and edited writing.
Thursday:
On Thursday, we will be assembling our books, and placing the images in the story where you think they should go. This is the time when you will be writing your final draft on the paper that will go in your book, so make sure you have your story proofread and edited on last time, and them meet with me for one more Writer's Conference. Once everyone has their stories written and the images glued in place, I will take the books to have them bound and return them on to you on Friday.
Friday:
I will return your books to you after I have them bound, and we will have time for those of you who want to share your stories with the class to do so. As a fun way to end our unit on writing stories, we will have a guest author come and read you a story they have written, and some of you can read your stories aloud after our guest author has read his story to you. You will be free to take your books home and share them with your families for the weekend.
